  • Then click the check box against the Enable VPN service and select the Apply tab.

  • The Windows operating systems require the Open VPN tool to run the VPN service.
  • Access the web link of http://openvpn.net/index.php/download/community-downloads.html to get the Open VPN utility tool downloaded on your computer system.
  • Once you have downloaded the Open VPN.exe file from the above link mentioned, launch the setup file and the Windows installer will start to install this Open VPN on your computer device.
  • Click the Next button and then select the I agree tab in the license agreement section and move to the next step.
  • Leave the check boxes selected, and click the Next button.
  • To designate the destination folder for download, click the Browse tab and select the destination folder.
  • Click the Install tab and the Windows installer will display the installation progress bar at the bottom of the page.
  • Click the Finish button at the end of the process.
  • Unzip the configuration files that you downloaded and copy them to a folder where the VPN client is installed on your device.
For a user computer system with Windows 64-bit system, the VPN client is installed at C:\Programfiles\OpenVPN\config\by default.
  • For client-based systems with the Windows Operating system, change the VPN interface name to NETGEAR-VPN:
  • On your computer device, go to the Networks page and select the following set of tabs Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.
  • In the local area connection list, look out for the local area connection with the device name TAP-Windows Adapter.
  • Select the local network connection and modify its name to NETGEAR-VPN. It is to be noted that its device’s name doesn’t need to be changed but only the local area connection name needs to be changed.
If you don’t change the VPN interface name, the VPN tunnel connection is surely going to fail.
